Tasha Tudor's art and New England lifestyle touched many millions of lives over several decades. Sadly the sweet lady passed away in 2008 and now every year on the date of her birth (28th August) bloggers around the world unite to celebrate her life and work.
The fruitful season is now upon us and so it's time to make plans for the winter months ahead. To fill our pantries and cupboards with jams and jellies, pickles, potatoes and plump apples.
Tasha Tudor's life was ruled by the seasons and her books and painting have always played an important part in my own life. This sweet picture from her book 'Take Joy' expresses just the way I am feeling today.
And so on this 'Tasha Tudor Day' 2009 I shall pick the apples from our little orchard and lay them away for the winter
and doubtless be tempted to taste a few along the way.
Wishing you all a happy and fruitful Tasha Tudor Day.
Until next time,
Eli
Dear Eli,
We're doing apples here, too! We will be remembering our dear Tasha Tudor on her birthday as well. What a wonderful example of determination and optimism she was!

Eli,
I had to tell you that my mother has a set of the "Queen's" China "Hooker Fruit" dishes like the mug in your photo of the sliced apple. I've always loved them!
Oh, and my latest knitting project was torn apart by the new puppy. I'll learn to keep my yarn out of reach!
Charlie and Kate send their best to Chalky, Charcoal and Rose!

My apple tree is just coming into ripeness--I love it! And I especially love the picture with the sliced apple. So evocative!

Dear Eli,
Oh this is such a beautiful tribute to dear Tasha Tudor. Your photos are lovely and your writings so beautiful! I love the illustration you shared of hers. She was such a gifted artist and a real inspiration! I love her old-fashioned ways and how she captured that way of life so perfectly in her artwork, and lived it for that matter! Your apples look wonderful and your dishes are so pretty!
Love, Paula
