Is it me, or is there a distinct hint of autumn in the air? Here in England's north country, after a fortnight of rain, we are enjoying golden days that have a balmy September-feel about them.
Perhaps it's the russet coloured blooms outside my window,
or the vibrant reds and yellows in the overgrown border.
The leaves on the acer, glowing like embers in the grate,
or the berries on the rowan trees, plump and shiny.
Perhaps it's the meadow grass, turning the colour of straw.
or the fluffy coated willow herbs
and thistledown being carried away on the breeze.
I think it must be the rosy red apples that are plump and ready for picking.
Whatever it is, there's a definite hint of autumn in the air here at Flutterby Patch and August is barely a week old.
Your photos are beautiful! Look at those apples!
We have the same conditions here. As we have traveled around this past week, we have seen trees with tinges of red and gold on them, even though the leaves don't totally turn until October here.
After next week, the really hot days of summer will disappear and early autumn will continue to unfold. Wonderful time of the year, isn't it?

Dear Eli,
It feels like autumn here, too! If we had beautiful apples like you, we'd think autumn was funner. :) Are rowan berries edible? They sure are beautiful (as is the rest of the garden).
Love,
Marqueta

I'm not feeling it yet, but I'm looking for it. I expect before the end of the month to be feeling that fall feeling. Linda

We aren't as near fall as you--no changed leaves yet. But it has felt like fall all summer here! Wahh!
LOVE the colors of fall. Your pictures are gorgeous.

Oh Eli,
Such a beautiful post! Your photos are so lovely and those apples looks delicious! The flowers and trees are pretty. I love Autumn and can hardly wait for its arrival. The heat and humidity is so oppressive in the south! My poor garden is quite neglected. As soon as the weather turns cool my dear husband and I have great plans for the garden!
Enjoy the beautiful place you live in, and thank you for sharing it with us!
Love, Paula
